Clinical Trial
Prostate Cancer Study
San Diego Radiosurgery at Palomar Hospital has opened a national prostate cancer trial and is seeking new patients to participate in the trial. The treatment uses one of the most advanced stereotactic radiosurgery devices available, the Novalis Tx. This technology delivers targeted doses of radiation to often inoperable tumors with sub-millimeter accuracy.
Until recently, this technology was used secondarily to augment traditional radiation treatment of prostate cancer. However, San Diego Radiosurgery’s prostate trial will help determine if radiosurgery treatments could be a primary form of treatment which would save patients time and money with shorter treatment regimens that are less expensive than traditional forms of treatment.
Under normal circumstances using traditional forms of radiation therapy, prostate patients can receive up to 41 daily treatments of radiation within a two month period. Early trials have indicated that radiosurgery can be as effective with as few as five treatments. The hope is that the trial will support those assertions and initial data.
Patients that would like more information or have questions about eligibility for the study should call (760) 739-3835 or visit www.clinicaltrials.gov.
